"Thou hast avouched the LORD this day to be thy God, and to walk in his ways, and to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and to hearken unto his voice: And the LORD hath avouched thee this day to be his peculiar people, as he hath promised thee, and that thou shouldest keep all his commandments; And to make thee high above all nations which he hath made, in praise, and in name, and in honour; and that thou mayest be an holy people unto the LORD thy God, as he hath spoken" (Deuteronomy 26:17-19).

As Christadelphians we have been baptised by full immersion into the death and resurrection of Yashua Messiah; we have avouched to "walk in his ways, and to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and to hearken unto his voice".

The true disciple of Messiah today is in the same position as Israel is in these verses. As Christadelphians we have been baptised by full immersion into the death and resurrection of Yashua Messiah; we have avouched to "walk in his ways, and to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and to hearken unto his voice". John records in his gospel "Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me" (7:16) and "Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things" (8:28).

Since Jesus spoke the words of Him that sent him we are therefore hearkening unto the voice of Yahweh, just as Israel avouched to do. In so doing we have been so privileged that Yahweh, the God of all creation, has likewise avouched that we should be his peculiar people as well as the Jews (Galatians 3:27-29Galatians 3:27-29 27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise., Titus 2:14Titus 2:14 14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. and 1 Peter 2:91 Peter 2:9 9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:). Israel were told "hear ye indeed, and understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not" (Isaiah 6:9Isaiah 6:9 9 ¶And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not.), and this was fulfilled throughout their history, culminating in their rejection of the Lord Jesus, just as he foretold in the parable of the wicked husbandmen; "But last of all he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son" (Matthew 21:37).

The Jews were therefore an example to us to learn from their mistakes and we must heed the lessons laid down for us during this time of our probation, to be a separate people unto Yahweh our God. The Jews will not learn it themselves until they "look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him" (Zechariah 12:10Zechariah 12:10 10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.) but many will have perished before that day comes.
